Special thanks to the klastic toy camera community! 06Dec09 | 2

klastic

We’ve featured the amazing progress of the Klastic Toy Camera Community on FourCornersDark before, and with every month they get larger and more active. This week we received a package at the office, and when we opened it up, it was 5 toy cameras from the guys at Klastic. One in particular, the Fujica M1 I have been trying to find for over a year, so it was very nice to have one finally! Look for a test and review soon. We also want to wish all of the guys and girls at Klastic a very happy and prosperous one year anniversary. Without groups like this, they worldwide Toy Camera family would not be the same. So thanks again you guys for a great gift, and we wish you all of the best luck in the future, and look forward to seeing more great images from your team. (See more on their Facebook page!)

May Day : one riot, one holga 01May09 | 0

mayday11

I just realized that today was May Day, and thought back to six years ago when I was trapped in the riots in London. All I had was a Holga, and I shot throughout the day. Have a look back as the quiet protesters turn into rioting crowds as day turned to night…

Win any Holga you’d like from HolgaBlog! 26Apr09 | 2

Andrew Wilson, Editor of HolgaBlog.com has launched a very interesting contest that combines both your photo skills and your thoughts as well. The prize? Any Holga you’d like, courtesy of Holga themselves. From Andrew:

“The competition will take a photojournalistic approach. You submit at least 6 photographs (or the links to the photos to save our inbox from exploding!) in addition to a story. The story can be non-fiction or fiction, it can be an account of how you took the photographs, or an account of what is happening in the photographs (For example, imagine the article ‘when candids go wrong‘, but with more photos!), or even a fictional story or poem with relevant photographs. Let your imagination run wild, or take a step back and submit something journalistic, the choice is yours!”

Check out all of the details here, and get your entry ready the closing date is the 31st May 2009, and while you are there, make sure you check out his fantastic interview with Christine So, Public Relations Co-ordinator at Holga.

WOCA : a better holga? 08Apr09 | 1

woca_blog2

While quite durable, Holga’s don’t last forever, so about once a year I rotate new ones into the group. This year when picking up a few new 120n’s, the seller happened to also have a WOCA, so I added that to the order as well. I have never reviewed the Holga, because if you’ve ended up here, you probably already know quite a bit about it. If you are new to the Holga, you may not know that it has a twin. But not an identical one. We’ve received more then a few emails here asking what the difference is, so I loaded one up to find out…

Polaroid : one last chance… 30Mar09 | 3

pola

For those of you who love Polaroid like I do, today brought confirmation of the news whispered about on the forums and blogs for months. Dave Bias and his crews have begun in earnest to bring Polaroid production back to the masses. Its fantastic news for not only the long time users who have cameras in desperate need of film- but also may bring up a new generation of instant film shooters. I spent my college years shooting Polaroid instant 35 film, and cranking Type 55 and 669 through my Speed Graphic. So take the time right now to check out Dave’s project, and lets all thank him and his team for saving one of the most important elements of photography.

i hate walmart, really. 27Mar09 | 8

walmart1

This space was supposed to contain reviews of the Demekin and Ikimono 110 cameras. Two weeks ago. After a day of shooting three 110 cameras, I dropped my film off at Walmart, who said they could do it in three days. I even talked really slowly. 19 days later, my film was finally back, but much to my surprise, there seemed to be a lack of communication between the genius at Walmart and myself. I guess I didn’t write “No prints, only CD” large enough or something… because what I got back was- you guessed it- prints and no CD. So I will be scanning like a mad man this weekend, and have those reviews up for you early next week. In the meantime, don’t go to Walmart. Especially not with any sort of film.
