holga filter set test results…
So here they are, all three sets of filters on the same subject. Shot with a Holga 135 using 200asa negative film. With the ‘Soft Surround’ the 35 format pushes the center up a bit, so instead of having it fade out symmetrically, it’s like an odd upside down sunset- it would probably work better on 120. The ‘Split Image’ filters give you the Disderi Robot 3 effect, or what I commonly refer to as the ‘Fourth Martini’ effect. The color filters do just that, add a tint of color to the overall image. I can’t really say that I would use any of the filters again except the grey soft surround, which actually gives you a nice outer blur, and in some weird way reminds me of those tilt-shift images that make large scenes look like little models… so that may just be my next project.
Scroll down for a look at each, this is more of a reference then a review- if it was a review it would pretty much go like “save your $35 bucks.” Short and sweet. You may find these interesting, and you may think they are a waste of money… but at least now we know what they all look like!
