my story : contest winner

This was the hardest contest I have ever had to judge. Every story was a unique personal insight into the art of the Toy Camera. While many shared a common thread, and a few of us seem to have quite a bit in common- there were a few truly inspiring stories that stood out. From them I had to pick one, and that was even more difficult. I have actually seen the work of the winner before, as many of you have- but had not heard the story until now. Its the one story that resonated the most deeply to me, and I think you will enjoy it just as much. Cheers to all that entered, we’ll be sharing your stories as part of a weekly column, and if anyone has a story to tell, please send it in as well. So without further ado, I give you the winner of the ‘Your Story’ contest…

If you guys haven’t had a chance to check the audio interview Tread did last month, save the MP3… put it in your car, ipod or whatever you have and give it a listen its a great insight, and cool to put a voice to the name!

saying “i’m not worthy” seems kind of trite at this point so i’ll just say “thanks” to everyone who took the time to read my thoughts. glad it resonated a bit, i don’t think my thinking is much different on the subject than most of the analog minded, i’m totally willing to admit that my images are not as good as a 25 megapixeled, glass lensed pro who makes his living with his weaponized nikon or canon. i’m just saying in the end, i just have to satisfy me and that might sound masturbatory but what is art if not masturbatory…word.

Great opening paragraphs. Tell it like it is, Tread! I’m saving these to my blog for future reference. [added via email]

What a great story. What he says about taking pictures of his family is exactly what I am looking forward to when I start one of my own. Thank you for the inspiration.

Congrats to the winner!
In line with some of his analog/digital discussion, I found it interesting that a small “box” in the current American Photo discussed a new Ektar emulsion since the mag has gone full digital except as in the current issue it is showing the work of a photog which is heavily analog. Anyway, the comment at the conclusion of the remark in this “box” still extols analog over digital in terms of what you reap in the end. Check it out.
